LD Top-Soiler

LD Top-Soiler

The Weaving LD Top-Soiler has been specifically designed to complement minimum tillage farming systems.

The ultra-low disturbance heaving action of the LD Top-Soiler relieves compaction in the top 9” (228mm) of the root zone, providing soil aeration and better water infiltration, while leaving the soil surface virtually undisturbed. The legs are followed by a heavy duty cast ring roller which leaves an even surface finish.

This fast and effective cultivator can be fitted with a Weaving Magnum Seeder and double disc coulter arrangement allowing it to drill cover crops, small seeds and oil seed rape at a low cost.

The LD Top-Soiler is available in 3 – 5 metre working widths, all in a mounted format.

Standard Specification

The mounted Weaving LD Top-Soiler is constructed from high grade steel with a heavy-duty frame, carbide faced loosening legs and lifting wings, shear bar leg protection, Cat III linkage. Full width 700mm Ø heavy duty 'V' ring packer roller with sealed for life heavy duty bearings, LED road lights. Working depths of 0” – 9” (0mm – 228mm), adjustment done by hydraulic cylinder using aluminium spacers. Transport width of under 3 Metres for hydraulic folding models.

Includes 1 year warranty

Key Features

Block Image

Lift & Loosen

Unlike traditional subsoilers that can leave the surface heavily disturbed and inverted, LD subsoilers lift and shatter the soil with minimal surface movement. The improved soil structure facilitates better water infiltration and root growth leading to healthier crops and increased crop potential.

3 Piece Low Disturbance Loosening Legs

The narrow spacing of the carbide tipped loosening legs allows movement of the soil across the full width of the machine whilst the lifting wings aid drainage and air flow around the root zone, keeping the top layer of soil undisturbed thus minimising the opportunity for weed germination. New for 2024, the LD leg is now constructed of 3 pieces, the leg, wing and point. These components are all secured by means of a roll pin allowing for seamless replacement when worn.

Hydraulic Depth Control

Working depth of the machine is easily adjusted using the hydraulic operated rear roller. The hydraulic rams are extended, and aluminium spacers inserted to set the desired working depth.

Heavy Duty Cast Iron Roller

A 700mm Ø British Cast Iron ‘V’ ring packer roller follows the 2 rows of legs to leave a firm and level seedbed. The roller is equipped as standard with easily detachable clod breakers allowing for quick replacement or for clearing large debris. The cast rings are made up of 3 individual pieces, allowing for ease of replacement if needed. The rings are paired, with one pair per leg on either side to gently press and close the slot.

Seeding

This fast and effective cultivator can be fitted with a Weaving Magnum Seeder and double disc coulter arrangement allowing it to drill cover crops, small seeds and oil seed rape at a low cost.

Testimonials

Simon Cottle, F C Cottle & Son, Wiltshire

Here in the heart of Wiltshire just on the edge of Salisbury plain, we are a mixed farm covering around 1450 acres with arable and suckler herd enterprises. This is split up typically with 700 acres of arable growing WW, WB, WOSR, SB, SO, and S.Beans and 750 acres of grass providing grazing and silage for 300 suckler cows and followers.

All straw is removed and all FYM put back on the arable ground. Historically we have always ploughpressed or Weaving Subdisced followed by a 3m Kuhn LC3000 power harrow combi drill.

Looking to save money and speed up the operation with less soil inversion, the new Sabre Tine Drill and LD Top-Soiler seemed to tick the box. The Sabre is very simple to use and most importantly very versatile. The Sabre allows us to drill in and on any type of cultivated soil or direct, in the right conditions, this versatility is a must on our varying soil types. With its large hopper capacity and 5.4m width to match our 27m tramlines and at 12 kph, our higher work rates have allowed us to make considerable savings.

Due to the farm traffic from the straw removal and FYM applications we opted for the 4m LD Top-Soiler which lifted and loosened the soil leaving it a weatherproof state ideal for the Sabre Tine Drill to follow after a chit. The LD is simple but very effective, its low disturbance legs do a great job under the surface but leave it relatively undisturbed on the top.

The key when using it is getting the right speed, we find 6.5-8kph ideal, the LD depth will obviously vary between soil types and conditions but typically use it between 7 and 9 inches, relieving compaction in the seed and early rooting zone. Both implements are pulled by a Case Puma 200CVX which handles them both comfortably.

This system has reduced our establishment costs by two thirds without any noticeable yield loss, and with the added benefit of being able to travel with following applications due to firmer soil conditions. Whether you’re farming conventionally or keen to move towards a more regenerative approach this combination ticks the box.
